Air Force Announces New F-35 Training Squadron at Luke AFB
The United States Air Force has officially announced the establishment of a new F-35A Lightning II training squadron at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. The 63rd Fighter Squadron will begin operations in March 2026, adding significant capacity to the Air Force’s fifth-generation fighter pilot pipeline.
Luke AFB currently serves as the largest F-35 training base in the world, housing multiple squadrons dedicated to producing combat-ready pilots for both the U.S. Air Force and allied nations. The new squadron will accommodate an additional 24 aircraft and support approximately 36 student pilots annually.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to maintaining air superiority through superior training,” said Colonel Jennifer Walsh, 56th Fighter Wing Commander. “The F-35 represents the future of tactical aviation, and Luke continues to lead that charge.”
Construction on new maintenance facilities and simulators is already underway, with completion expected by February 2026. The expansion will create approximately 200 new positions for maintenance personnel, instructors, and support staff.
Partner nations including Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands will also benefit from increased training slots as part of existing international agreements.
